Wow, wait till the SawStop legislators hear about this. Over on Breaktime, on Fine Home Building, there is a post about a guy who shot himself in the heart with a nail gun. Can’t remember the length nail, either 2 or 21/2 inches long. He’s going to be OK but it was touch and go for a while. Video on ABC TV News.

Safety
They may require full body armor to operate a nail gun - I'm glad he's OK
SA
But, but, but
What about those armor-piercing nails? Shouldn't there be additional legislation to limit the use of those nails to military and police?
I also want flesh-sensing technology added to my hammers.
flesh sensing technology
or FST is now available. It is a cartridge and is retro fitted to the nail gun or you can buy a new gun called NailStop. In either case once the cartridge goes off you have to get a new cartridge,$80.00, and a new gun. The cartridge consists of two high pressure canisters, one filled with CA glue, super glue, and the other is filled with accelerator. In tandem the glue fires first, slowing the nail, and the accelerator fires a micro second later, freezing the whole works, nail, gun and anything that moves. It has worked in demonstrations with hotdogs but is quite costly each time it fires. The question is, of course, what is your heart worth to you, or your eye, or other bodily part we won't mention? There is a move afoot to force the nail gun industry to put this technology on every nail gun and, unlike the SawStop, the industry is showing great interest, as nail gun sales will soar with each freeze-up requiring a new gun.

new nailgun tech
That sounds OK if the nail hasn't left the gun yet, but what about afterward? What we need are "smart nails" the flight of which can be aborted after launch - similar to those "smart bombs" that cost a few $million each. Surely all those rich carpenters can absorb those costs. ;-)
Ralph,
And we should ban those high capacity clips that hold 50 or more nails. Nobody needs those.
Ray
high capacity clips
I agree completely. No carpenter needs more than a single-shot nailer. And, even those should be licensed. We don't want those people wandering the streets in gangs!
Pins
What about the pin nailers that don't have a "pressure" type safety. I've had some fun and blew through a whole magazine shooting at my dart board and took a few pot shots at a curious mouse.
Frictional cohesive binder installation tools
Heart . . . brain . . . you name it. They have been going to town out there lately !

The old guys, or guys of old, had all that safe nailing worked out. Here is their nailer of choice . . .

I have never heard of a single case where a person put a nail into their heart or brain with one of these babies.
Notice there are no air hoses or batteries to get in the way or add weight to the device. Few moving parts (one). Very high mechanical reliability. And . . . the US government puts such a high value on these they have been known to pay upwards of three hundred dollars for one of them.
What more testiment do you need ?
All true, but . . .
. . . I still want one with flesh-sensing (at least thumb-sensing) technology. ;-)
Thummies
Well there is where the old style tools are "sorely" lacking isn't it ? (sorry couldn't help it ).
I am sure Swenson could hook us up with some nice cross bows for when we NEED to shoot at the dart board. I fully understand that aspect.
Oh no here we are again . . .
: (
After reciting "The Man's Prayer" (see Red Green TV show ) then we can go on to a little chant that I have made up in honor of DonStephan
First The Man's Prayer . . . repeat it with me then three times on your own . .. ready ? One, three, go :
I'm a man
But I can change
If I have to
I guess
Now on your own . . . three times . . .
An now for the first time anywhere, in any chat room . . . THE unveiling of The Stehpan Corrective Directive :
Only the facts

I gotta be good

No don't Jack
Stay on topic

Well . . . it is a work in progress. I started with a trowel to geeter done but may scrape off and do some glazing here and there.
Feel free to add to or take away. This is, and will continue to be, a community effort.
Has any one run across a post or thread by DonStephon ? I want to keep up and get back into the true swing of things. Preferably a nice long post. My fingers are getting a little split and messed up from all this shlock I been dumping in here. I am sure he is picking up the slack some where here.
