Does anyone know how hot 2 pieces of wood joined with Titebond 3 can get before the glue joint fails? I’ve looked on the Titebond website and can’t find anything.
I’ve used a heatgun to take joints apart before, but I have no idea how hot it was.
To be clear, I want to heat something WITHOUT the glue joint failing.

If titebond 3 is like titebond or titebond2 or most white glues and hide glues then about 200 degrees. Taking musical instruments apart somewhere around that temperature the glue begins to fail. How hot do you want to heat your joint? Some epoxies may give you a higher temperature . Some may give you a very high temperature. Resorcinal maybe your best bet. They use resorcinal for fire resistant doors. There is a product called Roo Glue that claims heat resistance but I never tried it. Most of these products that you look up that claim heat resistance -but they don't give a number.
The glass transition of pva is between 30 and 45 C, that is when it starts to soften. We all have seen wood panels siting under the sun reaching over 45C and not failing so it’s still holding the wood together. However at the boiling point it turns liquid so it is bound to fail at 112C or 234F. So you get some weakening starting at 45C and it will fail at or before 112C, I would not know where exactly.
Gorilla glue sells PVA that is similar to Titebond.
They recommend the service temperature of cured glue not exceed 150 degrees F
FWIIW the service temperature of original Gorilla Glue is up to 200F.
Not as strong as the PVA though truly waterproof. The wood will give up long before the glue does...
Thanks everyone. The part is already glued, and I'd just like to keep it that way.
I'm trying to dry it out completely to put it in a vacuum chamber for infusion with cactus juice. It's important to get it as close to 0% moisture as I can, which means oven drying. It works better getting it up just over boiling, but in this case I think I might do 120 degrees maybe, for a longer stretch.
This particular piece is some sort of extremely dense exotic that was part of some rich guy's deck, so it cost nothing.
