So I just bought the new delta 28-206 closed stand bandsaw last night, I am trying to adjust the guides and fire it up, here is the problem. The 1″ bar that the upper guides connect to is not paralell, when you tighten down the knob, it causes it to lean back about 1/8″ to 3/16″ making it impossible to fit the guides to the 1/4″ blade that I have. Also, the blade is very tight , I set the quick release knob and it is too tight to even tension it . I got the riser block kit and the block is seated properly on the roll pins. Is this saw posessed or am I just stupid?

I had the same problem with my (former) Jet BS. It was fine until I put the riser on then it was misaligned in the same way yours is: the guide post wasn't parallel with the saw blade. I tried another riser - same result. I needed to adjust the upper guides every time I moved them up or down. Finally gave up and sold the saw.
Well, here it is Sunday afternoon, and I bought this saw on Friday. In my last post, I didn't mention that I had to drive across town back to Rockler to gat a new side for the closed stand due to a mis-cast side that wouldn't work no matter how I put it in. I have the mis-alignment problem that taking the block off seemed to cure. Back to Amazon that goes! Now I completely re-set it up and got it all adjusted, plugged it in for the virgin run and....... the lower (drive) tire walked right off the wheel screeching against the back side of the lower cabinet . I re-installed the tire and it did it again. It is not tensioned too high, but the tire does seem very loose (i can put it on with just my fingers. Needless to say I have yet to cut piece one of wood with my 3 day old saw. Should I take this thing back, throw it in the river, or is this normal when one drops $500 on a saw?
I would hope that it's not normal. I think I'd take it back.
I'm not buying another Jet bandsaw and probably not the economy model of the Delta after reading your post.
So I just got back from Rockler and traded the saw for the one that they had assembled on the floor. It seems to work fine. Maybe the other saw was built on an ancient saw burial ground. I will put this one through its paces and go from there. Thanks for the suggestions.

Why a LEXUS cost so much!
Jeez,
The air would have turned blue in my shop had that happened to me. I bought the 14" Ridgid saw and a riser block and have had no problems whatsoever with mine. I have noticed more and more threads in rec.woodworking regarding Delta quality control issues and to make matters worse customer support going downhill. Glad you were just across town getting it.Michael BurtonThunderbird HardwoodsKiln Dried Mesquite Lumber
Matt,
A couple of questions if you don't mind? Did you buy the Delta riser for your 206? Rockler is having a sale on that BS now, are you eligible for a rebate?
I did replace the bottom tire and everything has been working fine..but I have not bought the riser block.
I did get the riser block, however I bought it from Amazon because they had it for 90.00. I was all set to go and get the 28-476? open stand 3/4 h.p. saw at Lowes for 400.00 before 30.00 rebate, when that very day I got the Rockler ad in the mail. The saw was 460.00 and you get a 50.00 card to use on anything in the store(except the saw). Couldn't pass it up.
Wow Matt ,I hope you gave the people at Rockler a piece of your mind. At least you were lucky enough to have bought the saw locally and not online. Imagine the hassles then. That's always my concern when ordering a new tool from an online source even if I know it is a good product. You can always get that Friday afternoon or Monday morning tool built tool. Then what? If you have the issues like you had with your Delta do you diagnose the problem yourself then try to get the manufacturer to send you the replacement parts you need to repair your new tool yourself. Or do you drag that 400 pound monster that cost you most of your friends and a possible hernia to get it into your basement, back up, put it back on the shipping pallet, call a freight company and pay to send it back! I don't know.
I guess I'll stick with buying from Woodcraft and making them run the tool in their store before I take it home. It might cost a little more but I don't have many friends left and I think I hurt something when I bought my jointer.
Good Luck with your new saw.
Keith
The 14" Harbor Frieight 4-speed band saw I bought three years ago never had any of the issues your Delta has. And the "Harbor Fright" only set me back $219.
I highly doubt you're "stupid"; you've bought a Delta and you're just taking your chances with a long-worn-out brand name. G-o-o-o-d luck. It appears that you WILL need it.

Thanks Kieth and Putzger for the help and suggestions. I had the Harbour Freight saw before this one and found it to be under powered and there is no height block that I know of. I am happy to report that the new saw is working flawlessly and I so far have no complaints, everything including the height block bolted right on with no problems or mis-alignment. I think this will work. I also should add that what pushed me into buying this at this time was a $460.00 price with an instant $50 gift card to use in the store for acc., so for basically $410.00 I couldn't pass it up.
