Bob,
I can dig that.
It will be $25 an hour plus the return air fare from/to Blighty. Also, I will be sleeping in the hole.

Do you want the ceiling, floor, or both to be higher? If you filled it with Jack Daniels do you think that would make it higher?
Cadiddlehopper
that was the first and last message i'll post ...I received 5 replies and the must of been sent by 4 year olds,,,,kind of stupid.......
I have to admit, the vagueness of the question was only exceeded by the ridiculousness of the answers.
Seriously, you only have three choices, dig the basement deeper, raise the foundation of the house or move to a different house with a taller basement. Which of those is the best option for you will depend on a lot of factors that were not included in your post. In lieu of those details, I would think that jacking up the house and laying a few more rounds of cinder block between the house and foundation would be the first option. But perhaps moving would be easier and not that much more expensive. Assuming it has a concrete floor, I don't thing digging deeper is either practical or cost effective, but there are too many unknowns to make any well thought suggestions.
the question was IFnot how
Since your origional message was removed, it has become even more difficult to provide any kind of meaningfull response. Sorry we couldn't help.
Bobpat,
I read the last four posts to this thread. Very open-ended. The more constraints one has, the more specific a response can be. Since there are no constraints here, and I have no idea what the problem is, let me give the following advice:
It is highly likely that a large shoulder plane will not solve your problem. Hope that helps. :-)
Enjoy,

96,
I believe it is feasible to plane off a few feet of floor. It will just take time. Also, one of those planes where the nose comes off will be useful to do the corners.
There will be a bit of sharpening needed, especially if there are boulders down there.
Lataxe, thinking positive.
The original message seems to have disappeared. Could you re-phrase the question?

Folks, I did not see the first post , but feel the necessity to add some advice for those for those souls concerning themselves with such a predicament- I advise you to beware of UCU's.Philip Marcou
Philip,
So far, I have not been hurt by any UCUs. I looked them up on Google. I found a number of meanings of UCU. They include:- University of Canberra Union
- University College Utrecht
- University Credit Union
- Ukranian Credit Union
- Uganda Christian University
- "Ucu" is also a town in Yucatan, MexicoSo which of these particular meanings were you referring to?
Or did Google leave one out?
:-)

Mel, the all powerful Google has been defeated: UCU stands for Unforeseen Cock Up.Philip Marcou
Philip,
Around here there are always FCUs. The fact that you can forsee them does not mean you can avoid them, thus proving that there is no free will and we are the victims of a cruel universe.
Of course, the other technique is to enter Denial and swear blind that the FCUs are in fact TWIMToDs.

Anybody making furniture today, or is the world sitting on the floor, eating off the couch!?!
Jeff
Jeff,
I spend a bit of time on the pink leather couch - it is like nestling in an elephant's ear or even a [censored]. This is where I read and learn stuff.
However, I also spent 9 hours in the shed yesterday sawing and planing a pile of rough maple planks of different thicknesses into the top parts for a new workbench. The day before I did similar with the chunks of sapele and iroko for the bottom parts. Not furniture making, perhaps; but definitely harder than the pink couch activity.
Do I get a star or a small badge for me hat?
Lataxe, part time couch tuber
I think a gold star will suffice.
Jeff
I hope you find a sense of humor soon.Cadid
Move it up to the kitchen then it'll be about 8ft higher.
