Heirloom Tool-Chest Chris Gochnour
I am finishing up the Heirloom tool chest and I am wondering if anyone knows what part numbers Chris used from Whitechapel Ltd for the hinges, 90degree handles and Lid support. Thanks for your help.

you can send a word to FWW and ask them to forward your questions to Chris. The folks at FWW will give it a try if you ask. Might put you straight?

James,
If you are unable to get the answer let me know...I made the tool chest out of butternut a couple years ago and still have the parts list at home...will be glad to look for it if you need it.
Neil
Niel,
Thanks so much! When you have time I could use the part numbers. Do you have pictures of yours? Would you change anything will the till layout? Thanks!
I would be glad too, but won't be able to get back to you until Monday since that info is at home and the computer is at work...as far as the tills go, I added an extra one as my chisel and rasp collection increased considerably since I originally built it..if I were doing it again I might consider laying out the tools and fitting them more closely to the dimensions of the till or better yet, french fit them...may still do that in my "spare time"...the other thing I would recommmend is to put thumb holes or indentations at both ends of the till to facilitate their removal...mine fit so tightly together that it's a bit difficult to get them out...it's a great chest though..I often get remarks, usually from womenfolk, "that's too pretty to be a tool chest"
Neil
Niel,
No worries on the time line getting back to me. I have been working on this chest for a long time now, deployments to Iraq keep getting in the way. I was thinking of French fitting them but the tills in the plan have a lot of depth to them. I was contemplating on making more shallow tills. Thanks for the heads-up on the holes/recess to get the tills out. Thanks for your help and have a blessed day.

It's a good bet that by now Whitechapel is aware of Chris' project. Perhaps they can tell you if they have a picture of his project.

Good morning,
I actually remembered to look for the info you requested. The lid stay comes from Brusso and is 3/8X3/4 size and the butt hinges, also Brusso are 1 3/8 X 2 1/2. I know that Tools for Working Wood carries this brand.
Chris didn't specify handles, suggesting we pick our own. I used an Arts and Crafts style handle from Woodcraft that I like better on the butternut. However, it looks like he used the 4 1/2 antique brass handle 50LH31A from Whitechapel.
Wish I could post pictures because I really like my tool chest and use it daily (well, almost daily).
Hope this helps.
Neil
