I am at my wits end. Next May 5th will be my 25th wedding anniversary at I want to make the wife something really nice. Any suggestions or ideas might just get this brain a moving.
Thanks

Make the blanket chest shown on the cover of Woodsmith Vol 25 No. 145 (March 2003). See http://www.woodsmith.com. My wife wants me to make one for her. This is traditionally what a young bride has her trousseau in, later keeps blankets there. Of course we were too poor for that, so she still wants one, 33 years later. Norm also has one or two designs on his site http://www.newyankee.com. This is definitely a female gift. She will like it better than getting a nice oak rifle cabinet, or a new deluxe routing center.
Another good project: 18th centure Pennsylvania secretary, shown on cover of FW #154 Jan 2002. Beautiful design, good for bedroom or LR for your wife to use for correspondence, billpaying, hobbies, etc.

Thanks for the ideas. they are in the running. My sister in law said she would love to have a corian counter top for the kitchen and an apron front sink. The base cabinet would have to be remade (right up my alley) but the corian top ($$$$) and the sink ($$$) are the main problems on that idea. I wonder if she would like a HDTV for the living room.

Well Dave, here's one I did. Gave my wife a nice 27 gallon "6hp" oil-free compressor, so I could blow out the underground sprinklers for her each fall, saving her $50 a year.
Of course I managed to find other uses for it too ...
I made my wife a hinged jewelry box with 4 small feet, a little drawer, and a hinged cover to go over some compartments in the top out of walnut. J.Anne Fabrics kinda had some satin which made nice liner. Thought was appreciated.
Downfall: For all other occassions thereafter, she seemed to want bright shinny things to go in it. Maybe the idea of a nice blanket chest for the end of the bed would have been less expensive.
Oh Wow, Panic! My 25th is just over two years away. I better start planning, I'm alittle slow.
If the HDTV (my first choice) won't float, how about a wall clock. I'm thinking a black walnut Vennia Regulator. The German movement will run you between $300 to $400, I think, haven't priced them lately, but they are beautiful, real eye catchers. Also the time involved and size of the project would be easy to hide.
Of course! my 20 year old oak School House clock has been off for years because the dang thing is just too loud. 16 note Westminster chimes every hour gets a bit old much less the hour count at midnight. The higher end movements have silencer switches.
Enjoy, Roy
