My in-laws have a farm in northern Kentucky (~1hr E of Cincinnati), and they need to remove a couple of grand old walnut trees in order to build a new house. I would dearly love to make lumber out of these for my own use as a hobbyist – I’m sure they’ll just go in a chipper otherwiset. Since my wife grew up on that farm, there’s some sentimental value. Problem is, I live in California.
Are there services that will come take the trees down, mill them, and stack and sticker them for me? Basically, do all the work, since I’m not there? I’ll figure out how to ship them later, after they dry. How much might such a service cost, and how can I find them? Or is this all just a pipe dream, not worth the trouble?
Thanks…

If it was me I would want to be there when they were sawing the logs. If it is not stacked correctly you will end up with firewood. I have done this before and there can be a lot decisions to made while cutting. Do you just want 4/4? If not it might be nice to decide what gets cut thicker for example for legs. They also may not keep the boards in order.
