I inherited a nice Leigh D4 jig, including the finger joint template. But it’s missing the VGS (Variable Guidebush System) for the different size finger joints.
Leigh will sell me a replacement VGS for $99, but do I need it, or can I use the standard Porter Cable 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, and 1/2 inch bushings for my router?

The variable guide bushings are Leigh's clever way of making small adjustments in finger spacing for tight-fitting joints. The bushing has tapered outer sides (think cone), so standard PC bushings would not permit such adjustment.

The Leigh VGS guide is worth every penny, especially if you have tried to get finger joints to fit before.
