I have a 9-inch-wide Groz vise from Woodcraft that I believe is an
Indian knock-off of the Record 62 with a lever-actuated quick-release.
I bunged up the steel strap bracket on the bottom that holds
quick-release mechanism, which is a flat blade that pivots, forcing
beefy half-nut into the main screw.
Now I have to hold the QR lever down with one hand while I tighten the
vise. Otherwise the half-nut is forced down and disengages from the
main screw.
I’d bang it back into shape or make a new one, but what shape is it
supposed to be?
This *sounds* simple but if you look at one closely I think you will
find it is not. The shape of that bracket is critical to holding
things firmly in place, and in letting it release and re-engage
smoothly.
I’d replace the whole vise, say with an Anant clone if I knew it
would fit, but it’s all nicely mortised into my bench, with a nice wood cover for the front jaw.
Even a good close-up picture of one engaged and released would help.
Thanks,
SmallSpace
