I’m hoping someone can help me remember a FWW magazine back cover from several years back. I’ve been trying to search for it but don’t have enough info to get effective results.
The piece was a verneer construction cabinet. The artist sliced thin end-grain disks from a small tree or branch and inlayed the disks onto the front of the cabinet. I’m interested in this because as I recall the artist soaked the end-grain disks in some sort of solution to prevent them from checking as they dried.
Does anyone remember that back cover, or even which issue it was in? I believe it was about 8 years ago (+/- 3 years).

Hey give me a harder one. My file drawers prove themselves
. . . once again !
March / April 2004 was the article page 106
Making Oysters For Veneering by Silas Kopf
Used GF-20 Veneer softener 1-800-825-0840
Says can make your own by mixing 1/2 cup hide glue, 1 cup of water and 1 oz of glycerin.

Roc,
I'm trying to remember - back as far as FWW goes - Winter of 1975 - was it $ 8.00 / year or $ 15.00 / year to subscribe - ?

Well I bought my first issue around 1986
and didn't really get into woodworking until about 1999. So I wasn't there for the big go.
Besides that's not a woodworking question. The answer isn't going to be in my file drawers that's for sure. I should bug out right now for that reason alone.
Well let me see now . . . had a quick look at the piles of magazines and found I go back only to issue #4. Might have an older one here but didn't see it on first blush.
Worked all day and was brain dead when I got home but had me shower and me hair cutter from Chicago ( I live in Colorado and my hair cutter lives in Chicago. Long story. I'm the customer that has been with her the longest ; 25 years ) stopped over to my house to cut my hair, as she always does every five weeks or so. Had some dinner and watched an episode of The Beiderbecke Affair.
Soooo . . . now . . . I feel much more human now. I am refreshed to the point I figured what the heck. Decided to have another go. Then I realized looking in the old first mags is not the way to look at this question.
The 25th Anniversary issue indicates that Paul Roman started FWW by requesting the potential new reader to send him $8.00 up front for a one year subscription before any issue had ever been printed.
November 1st the first issue was printed; not really winter yet is it but close enough.
So, the answer is $8.00.
Yes ?
Correct Answer
Roc
$ 8.00 for one year or $ 15.00 for two years -
Yes I believe you are correct on all counts..... both facinating FWW trivia + personal satire. Glad to see someone else working a full day on a Saturday. It helps fund those expensive hair cuts I'm sure -
1999 - let me think about that ? Not too long ago - OK here is another question or two:
How did they make popcorn before the microwave ? - and if you answer correctly ........... you can continue to the second round as follows..........
Who was on the Tonight show before Jay Leno ?
