I know that’s not a descriptive title, but in a way…it is.
My wife and I are getting this router
It seems like a good deal on Amazon. $188 for the Bosch 1617EVSPK 2-1/4 HP router combo pack.
The thing is, if I spend over $199 or more, I get $25 off. So I need something else to add to this. Id like to stay under $225 total. So I need to find a $37 item that is from Amazon that I will use.
This is a family gift for my soon coming birthday, so I’m trying to make it count. anything over $225 is “on me”
any ideas?
[[UPDATE]]
I have made the purchase.
I chose the 4 set of Marples Blue Chip chisels. Total with the chisels was $187
Thanks for all the help.

Look into an edge guide for the router, if it doesn't come with the kit. I use mine all the time for mortising, and routing details into table tops.
Jeff
Well, it says it comes with;"Includes a free deluxe edge guide, a $39.99 value, plus a $100 accessory package featuring a centering cone, 5/8-, 7/16-, and 5/16-inch template guides, plunge base, dust hood, and fine adjustment extension knob"Is that what you suggest?I looked at a set of bits, but the ones that I see are either $30 for a set or 6 from Columbian, or $200 for a set of Frued. I figured I'd get the bits later on, when I had the need for them.

How about a set of pilot bearings? You will use them in setting the depth of rabbets and quarter rounds on following bits.Tom
Cidion, I agree with Alan about getting a book or two. A router book for sure and maybe that joinery book I included in the list I sent you. There's lots that's not intuitive about a router.
PS: A good router book will also have plans for a table and various jigs to help you work.

What about some things to with the router?
Bits, edge-guides, jigs, etc.

Seeing as you're getting it from amazon, how about a woodworking book or two? With the amazon free shipping, you pay about the same as the 50% off Taunton sale with the exhorbitant shipping costs. Just search for taunton on the amazon site.
Cidion,
That is one fantastic deal. I bought the non-variable speed version of the router kit (2 bases) and I am very pleased with it. It cost me over $240. And I paid extra for all the extras you're getting for free. This router is one of the best in it's class.
Gees, spend $25 for anything at all and you're way ahead. What are you waiting for?

When shopping at amazon I am sometime pressed to get that magical number. I always pick up a bessy clamp. You can never have too many clamps. Thats m2cw

Amen brother. Amen!

Great deal on the 1617.. and, as others have recommended, a nice clamp or two.
Thanks for the help everyone.Right now I have a cheap set of chisels, so I got a set of 4 Marples Blue Chip. I'm sure they will be better than my home depot special. =)I'm not sure when it will ship, but I'm hoping it's sooner than later. I'll have to build a router table next. Thanks again!
i just ordered it and amazon said it was back ordered.. their arrival estimate for me is march 14th at the latest (I ordered a couple days too soon, i paid 220 for mine) anyway.. I dont know if youre a regular amazon shopper but if you are then you probably know that they allways estimate way farther into the future then they need to.. so it may arrive sooner..We'll havto have a cyber-toast when fire our new toys up for the first time______________________________________________

Hey Skycore,I'd call amazon, and tell them that you ordered this at the $220 price, and you'd like to get it at the $188 price. They've helped me out before like that. Just as long as it wasn't a month ago. I know the price just went down in the last 7 days.Or, since it hasn't shipped, you could cancel it, and reorder the new one, and get a $12 item, and save $45... AND get the item.just some thoughts.
usually the $199 limit has to be reached with a given mfr's stuff- in this case, bosch- not just the total order. is it different this time? if that is the case, you can always get bits or jigsaw blades or something. bosch also makes the the best quick change drill chuck- "clic-change"- of the bunch, if you need to spend another $15-$20 on something you'll use.
i've hit the sales hard over the years- i know the temptations...

I've been coveting Lonnie Bird's "Taunton’s Complete Illustrated Guide to Using Woodworking Tools" for a bit now. I've looked through it and it's really fascinating and enlightening. At $39.99, it would put you over the top if you don't want to wait for the backorder.
Btw, I have other suggestions for helping you to spend. Make your check payable to Mitch Vaccarino, or cash, and send it to 8856 Glenrisge Ct, Vienna, VA 22182. I am only too glad to be of whatever assistance I can. :-)

Dovetail jig?
Router bits?
More router bits?
template guide set?
I could go on... :-)

Thanks everyone for the help!
I have made the purchase.
After way to many searches, and page loads, I chose the 4 set of Marples Blue Chip chisels. I think they will hold up longer than my Home Depot ones =)
I didn't choose a book, or some candy, or a pound of flour, only because it had to be in the tool-hardware section, and then be an item that was directly from Amazon, and not from a third party provider. That's kinda hard to do sometimes.
Thanks again!
Marples Blue Chip chisels.. I have some and some so called 'good chisels'. 'Good ones hold a edge a BIT longer.. But not THAT much for the price.. Cherry is my good ones?
Not knocking the cherry's, but my Marples do as good as I can hold them straight!
