HI! I need some help. I am looking for a woodworking hand tool. It is used to guide nails in at an angle. Can anyone tell me what it is called? I can’t find it anywhere,- probably b/c I am calling it by the wrong name. I think it is plastic, and you but the nail though it and it makes it go in at an angle. I have seen it on a few home improvement shows.
PLEASE HELP!

The technique is called "toenailing"! Do you really need a tool for this? Just hold the nail at an angle and hit it. I really think there are too many unnecessary gadgets out there being marketed to the home hobby folks.

I dunno if yer talking about a "rampin", basically a hollow shaft with ####drivepin in it. The small ones are plastic handled and intened to set smaller finishing nails or brads. Large ones are available somewhere which can be hammer driven. For those applications where a flailing hammer may be disasterous- like near glass.

A nail gun works really well for this, but, it's not a 'hand' tool.

Do any of the shows have websites? They usually list the vendors who supply the tools. Typically they seem to rerun the shows a lot so maybe you could see it again. Sounds like something you could make from a block of wood and a magnet perhaps. You try an inquiry to http://www.leevalley.com or go to the big box stores. If it's on a show it shouldn't be too hard to find. What is the exact application, for decks or finish trim work?
You may be looking for a pea shooter. You can make one or buy one wherever siding tools are sold. They are not plastic, they're steel. Used to place a nail where you can't hold it. If you have trouble toenailing, drill a pilot hole on an angle first.
