My niece gave my wife a bureau that she had painted a very nice floral design on. The base coat is a flat latex and for the flowers she used an acrylic paint. We would like suggestions on what to use for a protective coating… poly, varnish, laquer, etc.? Sprayed on (we don’t have a high end sprayer) or brushed?
Thanks

A spar varnish will amber the piece and perhaps give it a richer look (brushed is fine, if you know how to brush varnish which is not easy). If you want to absolutely preserve the true colors of the artwork, then I would spray it (or have it sprayed) with lacquer.
*CStanford, thanks for your advice. I think the spray lacquer is the way to go if I'm careful to avoid drips, etc.
*Don, you can spray it with a can of Jet Spray Lacquer, but I would buy a couple of cans and practice with it before you spray the live project.
