I recently received a Eliminator RC quick change collet for my Porter Cable 7518 router. I can’t get the existing collet off. The shaft has no apparent way of locking for collet removal Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

isnt there a threaded screw in the bottom inside of the collet?
I'm pretty sure you don't remove the existing collet completely. The adaptor screws on to the existing collet. You just remove the top nut. With newer PC routers, the top nut is attached to the tapered shank holder with a circlip. This is the part that the new adaptor replaces.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Are you talking about replacing an old style collet with the newer, quick release version (where the collet is actually attached to the locking nut)?
If so, you can generally get the old collet out, if you 1) remove the retaining nut, 2) spray a penetrating oil (like Liquid Wrench) between the old collet and the housing, 3) replace the retaining nut (loose, not tight), and 4) rap the retaining nut lightly (all around the nut) with the edge of your collet wrench.
The purpose of the tapping is to allow the oil to do its penetrating, and sometimes you have to keep at this a day or so. But eventually, it will come free.
Sorry if I misunderstood your problem.

Remove the top nut only, collet comes with it. Eliminator screws on instead of top nut.
