I have just become the proud? owner of a Craftsman Radial Arm Saw. The price was so good I just couldn’t pass it up (free). Just one problem. It is missing the blade guard. This is a fairly significant problem. I can order it one part at a time from Craftsman, but was wondering if anyone knew of a place that has used parts like this. I guess Im just cheap. But I thought I would check here first.

This saw may be one of the ones covered by recall, and no gaurd is avail., or replacement may be avail. for free. I have a couple of gaurds that I picked up at scrap yard some time ago and one may fit your saw. They won't fit mine (too new for mine) . Google radial arm saw recall or go to Emerson electric web site. You will have to have model and serial # to check. If saw has cast iron arm (not alumunum) don't junk it as it is a quality machine. Pm me if I can be of any help.
Dear None,
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!!! a quick trip to the Emerson site confirmed that it was a covered guard and I was able to quickly order a free replacement. I knew that it was worth the time to ask the experts. Thanks.
Dear None,
Thanks, am sending this to you since I am so new I am not sure what the response rules are for this post. Your information was invaluable, as I was able to log onto the Emerson site and order a replacement without any problem. In addition I looked and while the arm does not appear to be cast iron, it is definately steel. I checked with a magnet. This seems to be a quality peice of equipment, very solidly made. It also appears to have very little use. I am going to order the owners manual from Sears and go through it and do any adjustments required. Once again thanks for the help.
Find the model number (probably on the motor) and use it to find your parts on the Sears website.
Ray,
Congratulation's on finding your guard. I've had a 12-inch Sears RAS since the late 70's or early 80's. Let me know how you like it once you're up and running. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
Good luck.
Phillip
Mt son-in-law has my old 12" Craftsman ( I think it was a 12") he uses it with no guard and cuts steel tubing with it! Damn!I always knew he was nuts!
