Hello,
I am putting this question out because I am clueless on this one. I have a small box about 12 inch by 5.5 with maple curly blue stain lid and a Walnut purple inlay. What would you do or have done. I am thinking a dye of some sort or maybe a combnation. Color and any suggustions welcome please!!! I want to sell this at a show on the 12th so I need to decide really soon!!

Sorry I missed you post until today. What is the blue stain about? If you have not finished it yet, I would use white shellac. Build up 3 coats and rub off gloss with extra fine steel wool. Please let me know what happened.

Think you wanted TrueGentleman, not Troost Avenue. I can't help you on the stain question.
I replied a few days ago and just found out that I had addressed it to someone else. If you are still interested read on. What is the blue die about?
If just finishing it is what you want to do, I would put on 3+- coats of white shellac and rub it down with fine steel wool. If doing something with the blue stain is a problem, and it is in only one area, you can likely fade it out with one of the wood bleaches.
Please let me know what you do.

Sorry I missed your question in my reply. Blue stain is a fungus that occurs in maple. It happens after the tree is cut and lays around for a bit before it is cut and dried. It "Permenates" the entire trunk. You can not "plane it off" I have never tried bleaching it out, but it should work. I usally avoid it when I can. I bought this wood online and...well I never waste wood.
