Need you help !
I have had this old Lathe, Called a Beaver made by Rockwell Tools. I have had it six or seven years. It was given to me, but I never used it. On Tuesday I started to make a bench two mount the unit on, Now I need a little help on how to use it. I have mounted a 2x2x24 piece of soft wood into the unit to try it out, and it made a loud squeal. I must have it to tight. I was wondering if I should put a small bit of oil or grease at the end of the wood. Any and all help anyone can give me would be more than helpful
Thanks for any and all help.

I had the same lathe for a number of years. It came with a fixed center on the tail stock. When it squealed I added a drop of oil. That always solved the problem.
Another option is to buy a live center. Live centers have a ball bearing so the wood is not spinning on the center. The Rockwell Beaver lathe has a # 1 MT in the tail stock, so keep this in mind if you buy a live center.

My lathe was supplied with a fixed tail center when I got it many years ago. After using it a bit (a very little bit) I decided to get a rotating center. It makes a world of difference, not the least is the elimination of that burning wood smell.
Once you tighten down, backoff the tail just a little. Put a little paraffin or bees wax on the center, oil will heat up and bleed into the work.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
