I don’t know what’s happening… 2 months ago there was a lot of noise asking for a ‘tips & tricks’ column on this board. Now we have it, no one is using it… So…… Todays little trick:
Keep a roll of inexpensive toilet paper near your workbench. It’s great for wiping up little bits of squeezed out glue. It also is handy for applying a bit of stain to a small area. Use it to wipe your safety glasses or your nose. It even comes in handy to use to rub a bit of wax on the runners of your cross-cut sled. There are many more uses, but that is how I use it in my shop.

SDS,
I have a paper towel rack, bag of cut up rags, and old hand towels in my shop. They all have their special purposes. From glue wipe up to preraising the grain. The TP is in the house, hehehehehe.

Is it really saw dust or wood dust?
There is a product better than the "household" paper towels. Scott markets "Blue Shop Towels". These stand-up to the rigors of shop applications much better. They will fit in conventional paper tower dispensers. Each roll has sixty 11" x 10.4 towels; available at Costco and Sams in 10 roll quantities or individually elsewhere (higher priced, though.Arlington, Texas (The dash in Dallas-Fort Worth)
Practice...'till you can do it right the first time.
I have the Scott towels they sell them at Costco so they may also sell them at Sam's. I think the TP idea is a good one it'll save on using the more expensive shop towels. Now to implement this idea.
Good, better, best never let it rest until your good is better & your better best.

Here's a handy tip for the workbench. I keep a half sheet of 120 grit sandpaper glued to the top as a handy tool for taking off a burr on the edge of a small piece of wood after cutting to keep from having to reach for the sanding block. Its also handy for a quick sand of those small pieces to small for any power sander or the sanding block. Also makes a handy rough area for holding or providing friction on a small piece. Its glued with spray glue so not permanent.
