Hoping to get some wisdom. Built a cedar herringbone coffee table. Framed along the perimeter, angles slats make the top. One side has a small lip, as in the slats are slightly higher than the edge( >.06 inch, but noticeable). What to do? Can I sand this level? I am trying to avoid taking off piece and rebuilding.

If the material is thick enough and fasteners are out of reach you can sand or plane the surface down to sit flush. Planing would get you there faster with a cleaner result.
It sounds like the perimiter frame might be the issue. I would replace a frame part (or add to it) before I would try to resurface the entire table.
