Hello out there,
now I need some help researching a new chair restoration project. A neighbor asked me to replace the missing stretcher on this dining room (?) chair (note vacant hole on back leg in photo). I became curious about the chair’s history when I found a manufacturer’s label beneath the seat frame. The red-and-white label reads, in part, “Heywood Brothers … [Wakefi -?]eld … Buffalo … U.S.A.”
Any idea when this chair was made? My online research on Heywood Brothers suggests a Massachusetts-based furniture factory originating in the 1830’s; there’s no mention I can find on a Buffalo (New York, I assume) factory, and this company seems better known by furniture collectors for its modern/Danish influenced designs.
Thank you, Fine furniture people!

This lady can help....
There's a lady named Cathryn "The Wicker Woman" who seem to know quite a bit about Heywood-Wakefield history (it was a merger between 2 companies). I'd suggest sending an email to her at her website (below). Be sure your subject line indicates you're looking to date an HW chair (she gets alot of email asking for appraisals, which she does not do).
