I’m looking for some high quality sandpaper, sheets and 5-inch hook and loop pads. The 3M and Norton stuff I’ve been getting from Home Depot and Lowes seems to have dropped in quality, it just doesn’t last like it used to.
Any suggestions?
Mike

Many of us here at Knots use paper from Klingspor. They carry some bargain stuff, but lots of high quality, and at good prices. Here's the link to their web site: http://www.woodworkingshop.com/
I'd suggest asking for a copy of their printed catalog. Makes it easier to see the range and categories of papers they have available, and easier to order online with the catalog in hand.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Ditto what FG said.
Ditto to what forestgirl and mark said.
Homestead finishing carries very good grades of both 3M, and Mirka, both of which are excellent. Good paper is not cheap. For me, I think the 3M 216 line of sterrated finishing papers lasts long enough to justify the price. And, the "P" grading on both means you are not likely to find a high grit, with the resulting problems of unintended deep scratches. I do not know the brands that Kinngspor carries as I have not dealt with them, so can offer no comment. That siad, I for one think that a high quality abrasive makes sanding much less bothersome. For the 5" disks, Woodworekers Supply carries Mirka and Royal, both of which are good.
I buy my sandpaper from a local auto paint supplier.
But then I try to not sand much.
