Since as I understand it, no additional categories can be added due to software limitations, I would like to suggest that Colonial Williamsburg be dropped (total entries = 85 over how many years?) and a new category added: Woodworking hints.
Hundreds of contributors I’m sure know many very helpful hints that even very experienced woodworkers don’t know. This category would allow those hints to be shared and “learned” by all. I, for one, appreciate the hints and help in this forum.
For instance, how many know: To erase pencil lines from wood, use a rag dampened with regular rubbing alcohol.
If others like or dislike this idea, please comment! Also maybe include your hint.

To erase all memory of the days mistakes drink alcohol ! :-)
Perhaps there would be more benefits to Woodworking Tips or a category similar. Everybody out there has something to give.Colonial Williamsburg could always be talked about in an existing category.Rick
I agree with that 100%. I never even understood what Colonial Williamsburg was about really. And there are few clues since nobody posts there.
Yea for "Tips and Techniques"

Let's hope the sysop reads these posts.
A bad day woodworking is better than a good day working -- yes, I'm retired!
Let's see if the sysop will concur! If we all post a thread to him (or her?), maybe it will happen.

a fine idea, indeed.
I would welcome such a change!
Ditto to all!!
Thanks for the support of the idea. Is the sysop reading these?

great idea everyone likes to read hints
Let hope the sysop supports us. Few seem to know why we have the Colonial Williamsburg section.

Great idea! Love new tips and techniques!!!
Neat name. How about some posting a request to the sysop. Thanks for the support.

Hello All,
Excellent idea. Here's a littlebackground regarding the CW folder. The Colonial Williamsburg folder was created when we used to report live from the event and it made sense to be able to direct users to a particluar folder to discuss the event.
With that said though we are in the midst of making some changes to Knots, particularly the folder structure. A for instance of how we are changing things, we have closed down the Tool Talk forum and will be migrating any of the data from there into folders here on Knots. We will only be moving the discussions that pertain to Knots. This will be happening sometime in the upcoming month(s). The colonial willliamsburg folder is also going to get renamed and it might even be something like Tips we are still working out all of the details. More TK on this soon.
If there is ever a need to contact us here there are a couple of ways. You can email me through the forums, you can email [email protected] or you can post a message directly to SYSOP. I do try and answer every message/email/posting I get but sometimes I might miss one so if you send something and have not heard back within a day or so try again. Thanks, -MarkSYSOPGot a question about the forums? email me at:[email protected]
Thanks for your consideration of this idea. I think all of us would enjoy such a folder.A bad day woodworking is better than a good day working -- yes, I'm retired!
Here Here,
I concur with Tips and Techniques...... I think this topic was brought up several months ago, too. What a great place to share (pass on) our continuing education and helping out our new wood working friends.
Let's DO IT...Joe
Is it really saw dust or wood dust?
Seems like a logical idea...I strongly support it!
Sounds good to me!

My suggestion a few months ago was to get rid of Colonial Williamsburg and the FWW back issues for sale discussions. The FWW back issues for sale can be done in the classifieds discussion (where it belongs)1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 - get a new board and go back to step 1
Why don't you just call it the Methods of Work catagory as in FWW magazine and let all share their tips and methods?
Also totally acceptable. Hopefully, the sysop is also reading these posts.

A couple of months ago I posted this same question to the sysop and got a reply that they would look at it after the new registration process was done and stable.
My suggestion was a Hints/Jigs/Tips one.
I just got a response from the sysop:
We are working on this right now. Will have something by Mid October (or sooner) as this is a big project, bigger than one might think. Will let you know. -M
SYSOP
I also suggested he view the discussion and respond to all
Yes we are working on this and several other projects related to the folder structure here at Knots. Like I said it will be a little while before we are able to implement it. Shooting for mid October is a realistic date. If something comes up sooner.
As always if you have a questions specifically for me there are 2 ways to get in contact, first you can post a message to me, or you can email me at [email protected] -MarkSYSOPGot a question about the forums? email me at:[email protected]
Glad you also got a response from sysop. If all of us let the sysop know what we prefer, then I'm sure they will listen and comply if not too expensive or difficult.
I really appreciate Taunton in supporting this forum. I'm sure it costs money and manpower. We all should be careful in criticizing and request politely any changes we would like to see.
Some contributors fail to realize the value of this forum and just use it for their own agendas not related to woodworking.
Yes, I'm am referring to the political activists and complainers.
