Anyone in this group had any experience with the Hitachi resawing bandsaw. I have had one for several years and it seems to be underpowered. Has anyone replaced the factory motor with something more powerful? If I don’t do something soon I am going to get rid of it as it is just collecting dust and taking up space.

They have one at the community college in Oakland CA and it does seem to be a bit under powered. I have also watched Norm use it on New Yankee workshop in the past. I know some people have repowered it but cant say weather its worth the effort.

have you tried fiddling with different blades? -- like, does Timberwolf sell a blade that will fit the Hitachi?

Joe,
Those saws are nototiously underpowered. I know of two different owners who upgraded to bigger motors. Nice saw, though. Drop me a line if you are serious about getting rid of it, I can't seem to find one on the used circuit.

Here at school we have one, and it is hands down the best tool in the shop. If the blade is sharp you don't need alot of power. I resaw flicths of wood anywhere from 200-300 mm wide. ( that's about 8 to 12 inchs ) I also never use the table saw for ripping anymore. When I get back to the states, the first thing that I will be in my already little shop is a Hitachi Resaw. (that's only because I already have a table saw and a jointer and a planer)

You mean the saw with the 3" blades, right? I've had one for quite a while. Replaced the motor immediately, and since then it has been fine.
