I am currently looking for a insurance policies to cover part time woodworking endevours. I currenlty do part time furniture projects that are sold (income revenues between $3,000-$12,000 per year). My equipment and income are claimed as a small business for tax purposes. I am having trouble finding insurance companies that will cover my home and detached shop as a small business. Anyone have any suggestions as to companies that may be able to write a policy?? What do you guys have with similar setups as mine? I’m sure a lot of us on this forum are part-timers that do sell some of our work. Not claim it?

first off- you need to find a good property and casualty agent in your area. my brother writes exactly this sort of thing for big or small companies all the time in the denver, co metro area. he set me up with a "bop" - basic operations policy for about $700/yr with the hartford. a lot of agents don't know squat about this sort of thing so keep trying.

Was the $700 only for the shop portion or were they able to write your house on this policy also?
without digging it out and deciphering it i can't be sure, but as i remember this policy treats my shop space and business as separate entities from our home.
