Got a question…
What can you all recommend for a glue/binder for making my own wood filler?
I am working with Ebony and Rosewood and have some small cracks to fill in the handcut dovetails (ok, I admit I am not absolutely perfect on the dovetail joinery). I have diligently collected dust from sawing with the intention of mixing up some wood filler but am concerned about the homemade filler accepting oil/stain. What kind of binding material has anyone used for making this filler, just a carpenters glue or something else?
Thanks for your input!

Use whatever you're going to finish it with as the binder, glue will show. Stain the dust 1st if needed. Don't fill them until after the staining is done so you will see that you're trying to match.
"Duco" cement, clear and smelly, dries real fast, and just a bit darker than original wood.

White glue works well. The big question I have is why would anybody stain rosewood or ebony? BTW I like sanding dust better than saw dust. The only time I use the bags or canisters that come with the sanders is to collect some dust. If the voids are small enough and you're going to use oil, the slurry from wet sanding does a nice job.
