I was wondering if anyone had any advice on making a press. I’ll be using up to 8 plies of Hard Maple at a time, the veneers will be 1/16″. I’d like to do this as cheaply as possible, money wise not quality wise. What will be best to use for forms?

For flat substrates, I use a vacuum cleaner and a blanket storage bag (the type where you suck the air out of the bag to get the blankets to compress in size) - approx USD10- from your variety stores. I just lay the panel up, put a piece of newspaper top and bottom and then a piece of 3mm - 5mm MDF to even out pressure, and remove air - 20 minutes later, the panel is glued.
This works well for flat substrates, and apparently it also works for curved ones.
Cheers,
eddie
