I have just purchased a house with a workshop. The owner has offered to sell me his ceiling mounted air cleaner. I’m not sure what it is worth (from a monetary and quality point of view). Any insight would be appreciated. Type–Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner
P.S. It looks rather old
Thanks N.E.T.

Air cleaners do a good job - I strongly recommend having one in operation during woodworking. You can make one yourself for hardly nothing and I've seen them in the market place for up to $600.00.
Good Luck

The electronic air cleaners are typically installed in furnace systems for allergy and house dust cleaning. Some are called "smoke eaters".
Shop application would mean cleaning daily and when they get dirty they create sparks---not great for your shop.
As a smoker I have two inside the house, and clean the filter grid with HVAC coil cleaner when the spark snaps get nasty. Or when LOML gets noisy. My first "fine" woodworking project was a blanket chest modified with louvers on the ends to hide one of these in our family room. Works for LOML.
If you have a need for allergy help, and the price is good---decent units start at $350 and run up to a thousand---grab it, the Honeywells are hard to find as stand alone units.
