I see a lot of videos where woodworkers use a hot glue gun for various purposes, mostly temporarily holding things together. Any recommendations? Harbor Freight has a cheap one ($14.99). What kind of glue sticks should I get? Thanks in advance.

Of all the things in your shop, the brand of glue gun you choose is probably near the bottom of the list in terms of importance. I would buy whatever one you think is a decent value, whether it be from Harbor Freight, Walmart, etc. I find the use of a glue gun to be very limited in woodworking.
Buy one with a trigger feed. The ones you have to push through with your thumb get annoying fast.
I have one, and 15 years later I think I'm still on my first glue stick. I think I got it at a Black Friday thing at the Borg, pretty cheap. It's a Dewalt, and seems very nice. But very rarely used.
I once heard Don Williams, formerly a furniture conservator at the Smithsonian, talk about all the ways they used glue guns to repair national treasures. It was fascinating. Their repairs need to be reversible, which hot melt glue is. They use it a lot to repair chips and divots. They mold it to match missing chunks of molding. Then painstakingly paint it to match the surrounding wood.
