I am just about done with a large pedal lathe and now need to find a way to mount a drive center onto a 1/2 threaded shaft. I believe that the threads are standard 13tpi. I can get the centers just fine from say

but I don’t know what a Morse taper is and how I can make it work. I really would like to be able to take center off the shaft, place in on the workpiece, and whack in into place. The centers I used before many years ago in 7th grade were made from socket wrenchs, filed into shape, with a nut welded onto the back end. Worked ok, but maybe there is a way to use commercial centers so I can have a variety of centers for diff. size pieces.
Thanks for any help,
John

In my opinion you should go look at a lathe in person at your local dealer or even a book on lathes and you will understand what a morse taper is. Typically the threaded spindle is more like 7/8" or 1" and has a tapered hole to hold your drive center. The tapered hole is sized to fit the drive center you have provided the link to. A number 2 morse taper is a common size for an aversge lathe. Bigger is nice but pricey. As I understand your post you have a 1/2" threaded spindle. By following the lathe standards that the manufacturers use you would have a lot of inexpensive options for accessories.
