Drawers. Little drawers, like the ones used in libraries for the card catalogue, but downsized. Lots of them, all with hand-cut dovetails. A few dozen of these little drawers in a cabinet should allow for the collection of a few bazillion cards.
There's an iPhone app that scans business cards with the camera and searching for a name is like searching for any other name in your contacts. My gf uses it at work :)
Scan App
Tha's right ! I heard of that. A person can scan a receipt and throw the paper one away and you can go back and pull it up if needed.
ect.
But, but, but . . .
. . . iPhones aren't made of wood. ;-)
Tell us more please
Is it the information you want ?
or
The collection of the cool looking cards? (or both?)
I am thinking all you really need is the information off the cards.
Pre computer I used metal file boxes designed to hold 3x5 inch cards. There were a lot of nice dividers available and you can still get some of them. I just copied the info on to a 3x5 and tossed the card. As you reconnect you can pencil in reminders and additional info. If you run out of room add another card with a paper clip or tape. When you go to visit or otherwise communicate pull the 3x5 and put it in your pocket book. Make it a habit to go to your metal box(s) at certain times of the day. Morning and evening, for example, to straighten up, put cards back and plan the next day or week.
Now that we have our electronic digital assistants use one of the Contacts apps and enter info from card and toss the card. You can photograph the card with your iPhone or what have you and add it as an attachment, background or other feature. I still like the versatility of my metal box. I can elaborate if you like but you get the idea.
In addition I set up a tickler file as part of the dividers in my metal box. This worked super well for me. I say worked. I was super busy back then and had many irons in the fire that were surprisingly unrelated. These days my days are, for the most part, very much simplified and I am embarrassingly , by American standards, disconnected and hermit like. Other than my ranting and ravings here.
Don't you feel lucky ?
: )
Is that what you were asking for or did I misunderstand ?
PS: on the upper left of the smaller pocket book is a real turquoise bead. I put it into a recess in the leather with a saddle stitching thread and it has been there for about twenty years. Surprises the the heck out of me it didn't come loose. In my back pocket and on my bicycle day in and out rain or shine every single day.
No, you are right about that. I'm not sure what they are made of
There is a phone service provider that sells the iPhone to you and you don't have a contract and just pay as you go for service.
The top of the line iPhone sells for more than $800 dollars. So judging by that it must be 24 K gold or platinum or some such. Worth every penny though. Apple will get my bucks for a new one when they come out with one that is larger than the current one but smaller than the new iPad Mini. I want one with a screen that is roughly 3 in x 5 in. I want to draw on it with a skinny stylus too. The stubby fat stylus that I have doesn't cut it for sketching and writing on the sketch. I want one the same size as my small pocket book here. In other words the largest thing I can comfortably put in a pocket.
Maybe I WILL make one out of wood, with wooden gears like the old clock works, and sell it to Apple and be as rich as Bill Gates.
Mmmyah . . . wooden gears . . . mmmyah. . . . .that's the ticket.
