I have/had about 8-9 coats of gloss Arm-r-seal on my table top, it’s cured for about 2.5 weeks. Today, I tried sanding the top with 500 and 1000 grit Mirka Abralon.
My problem is that I’m having a hard time grasping the concept of how much to sand. I’ve read that I should sand to an even sheen, should I be fearless in sanding to the dull sheen of each grit? It seems that the 1000 Abralon disk is the safer one to use, I’m afraid of blowing through the finish with the 500 Abralon.
Lastly, I tested a small area where I tried to polish to 2000 and 4000 Abralon, it’s a very spotty sheen. I assume that this means that I haven’t sanded the finish flat enough?

First let me ask a few questions about how you applied the Arm R Seal? How close together in time were these applied, particularly the last several coats? Did you sand between those coats? What grit? And, what is the wood?
Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for the offer of assistance! The wood is cherry. On the last few coats, I slowed down in the application to 1 a day. Initially, I was hitting the finish with 320Grit between coats, except at the start when I was putting down a coat every 9 hours or so.
Since my disastrous sanding experience, I brought everything down to an even sheen with P500 Abralon and steel wool. I then applied 4 coats of satin Gel at one a day and finished the last coat on the 4th of October. It's hardening now. I'm trying to figure out what to do next.
My scrap piece with Arm-R-Seal and Gel came out nice after I hit it with 4000 Aralon and then coated and buffed it with paste wax. So I'm hoping that's the route to go.
