We’re having friends over on Sunday for the Super Bowl (Go Pats!) and we need a coffee table. I happen to have a beautiful piece of granite given to me by my neighbor before we moved this past summer (his backyard looked like a grave yard since he did custom granite and marble installs).
Anyway, time was short this week and I needed a base. I went to Home Depot and picked out a quarter sawn 4″x4″x8′ and ripped, cross cut, planed, cross cut, mortised, tenoned, tapered, sanded, glued and sprayed exactly what I needed in ~ 3 hours.
Is it high end? No way, but it is practical, looks good enough and will probably still be standing in my living room next Super Bowl!!

I want to see a picture of that. Can you post one?
Give me a few days, I don't have a dig cam. The granite is really what looks good with the base doing it's best to not be seen.
BruLew,
Bad move..now you've gone and missed the game...sigh! You'll be sitting there the whole game stairing at your new creation....wondering about this and that...and if only...etc. etc.....you'll miss all the commercals....only see the touchdowns on instant replay.
Luckly, these games usually turn into defensive battles and can be quite boring...but not for you...then the conversation might turn to what you can build or repair for your friends....ouch..they always think wood cost nothing....lol
Just teasing, enjoy the game, congratulations
