I was just wondering what the SS was selling for in your areas. The 3hp with side table and longer rails?

Greg is correct. SawStop controls the price that retailers sell the saw for. There's no such thing as a discount.
And if I understand the news correctly, the supreme court ruled last week that manufacturers can dictate a minimum price a retailer can set.
For many companies, it's business as usual. Try to get an iPod or the new iPhone at a discount. Sony has been doing this forever. The rule for them is -- If you want our product, you pay our price. Sometimes, as with the SawStop I do, sometimes I don't.
Hail the return of fair trade pricing! Argh!
Not sure about sawstop, but I recall a local ww retail store mgr mentioning that we see the "MAP" or minimum advertised price, as set by the mfg. Indeed, said mgr has recently voluntarily offered some decent discounts below MAP. I prefer to dicker with the mgr. Just like car dealers, they have sales goals.
I got my SS dealer to throw in some perks that helped some. He's also willing to give me "discounts" on other tool purchases.
Bassett-Hound demonstrates one way a dealer can "discount" the saw. My guess is that MAP protects the dealer's profit and prevents the haggling that is the American Way. I sell a high-speed blender made by VitaMix. They have a MAP policy as well. But I am free to have an "unadvertised" sale where the product can be discounted in the store. I just agreed not to publish in print or on the internet a price lower than the minimum.
In the woodworking side, we have SawStop and Festool. And probably many others. I guess it helps the local dealers to carry the product line so we can go down to the corner and kick the tires. You know some internet dealer would make the deal sweeter and the local merchants could not carry these tools for us to put our hands on. People would go to the hardware store for education and buy from the lowest cost dealer. hat too has become The American Way.Greg
