Hi folks – new member and have searched for this info and not found much useful. To keep my question short and sweet – how much would you bid for the following 2 saws. It is an auction from a local college, so they’re surely abused. They say they are Powermatic 66, 2HP, 15A, 110V and don’t give any other info except that the second saw has a good running motor and blade adjustments, but that the fence and extension table need some work.
Of course would be nice to complete a thorough inspection, but assuming you can’t do that, how much would you bid? Minimum is $200.

At which point I'd win them for $300 for the pair.
Powermatic 66s are not pigs, and the name makes the polk irrelevant.
I checked them out today but only briefly. I don't have the knowledge and equipment to check for the details you all typically describe. One is wired as 3 phase 220 only, the other (with the larger extension) is wired for a regular outlet and runs pretty quiet without a blade. There is a fair amount of rust and no fence (the panalok fence seen in the picture didn't seem to work at all). There is no throat plate or blade. It has a 3hp baldor motor, blade adjustments worked fine. I will probably bid on the one wired to work in my current garage out of convenience, and add a decent after market fence, blade, and throat plate.
Any recommendations? I think I'm the only one bidding on these things to be honest, so could probably get some stuff off the other machine if I want for very little. Thanks in advance for any input. I'm getting excited, but I also know I have a lot of work ahead of me. Tempting to just buy something that is ready to turn on and be perfect, but also would be satisfying to learn how this thing works while getting it fine tuned. Thoughts?
It's probably worthwhile to expend the effort to rehab this saw, considering the price. That effort will make the saw "your baby" - and "ownership" at that level is always worthwhile. Whether you want to try to "restore" it, using only original equipment, or use other brand parts is up to you.

What is the age ? Or what is its color ? I would probably snap it up in heart beat !!! The motor alone is worth the price. And there is probably nothing on the unit that can't be replace to make it factory fresh. As to the rust, surface rust can be "easily" sanded off and give you a near new finish. Major pitting is more of a problem but not a "give up" problem, I can live with some pits. Throat plates can be easily bought or even home made. Fences, either powermatic or aftermarket are easy to get.
So I won the auction. Got the one wired for 115v (#1 in my dirst post attachment). Haven't picked it up yet. No one bid on the other one, so I am going to offer them something for the miter gauge and throat plate. It is green by the way, I will post better pics and serial no info soon. What do I need to partly disassemble this thing enough to transport in a pickup? Is it ok to lie the cabinet on it's side for the ride?
Thanks so much everyone. I'm new to this and am definitely not a "purist" (yet...) so I just want a solid functional saw at thus point.
great
Cool that you won the bid. As to logistics, I'd suggest finding out if they have men who can help load it, and, if so, how many. You may need to provide your own "muscle". Do they have a truck-height loading dock? If not, you might consider renting a fork lift. I'd try to remove projecting parts that might get damaged in transport.
Fence
Alright. I picked it up. FYI for those wondering in the future, disassembly of the extension wings, fence rails, and top only required a 1/2" and 9/16" wrench/socket and was easily dOne in 30 minutes. With the top off, the cabinet with it's motor and trunnions was lifted by 3 people easily into my car. Probably could load with two people in decent shape.
My next need for advice...I took it to a local place that is familiar with restoring them, as I simply don't have time, expertise,
nor tools to align the fence and fine tune the arbor if necessary. It came with the rails (80" long) for a paralok fence and they're in good shape. I haven't come across any isolated fence I could add to these rails (they are L-shaped with a pulley system). The shop has an old paralok 2 fence I can buy for $125 sitting in their back warehouse. It appears to be in working order, but I am forced to buy the same rails I already have as part of the package. Would you buy this or get a completely new aftermarket fence? I would be willing to spend $250 for a new fence system. And I don't have a miter, so considering the advanced miter systems instead of both. Any tips based on your experience would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Just my thoughts
I'm not familiar with that model of saw or fence, but for $125, I'd lean toward trying the original equipment. As to a miter gauge, I like the Osborne II unit - with the support strut that angles from the miter-track bar.
