I’ve just made a cross-cutting sled for my Unisaw. However, I’m having a tough time getting it, EXACTLY, square. At the end of an 18′ cut, I’m off 1/64″. Considering wood movement, etc., am I wasting additional hours trying to perfect it? Should I just get on wilth my projects?
I’m beyond “novice”, but have a lot to learn. I’m working on quality ( mainly arts & crafts ) furniture.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Morty

On an 18' cut you're off a 1/64"? WOW that's an incredibly precise saw cut. I don't think it really matters if you're off a 1/64" on any cut. Like you said wood movement will take care of any inaccuracies.

I have to ask, is it always 1/64 off in the same direction? Or does it change with each cut. (All said and done though, that's more accurate than most people will ever notice)
Do you really mean that you ran an 18 foot board through with a cross-cut sled or did you mean an 18 inch? Even only a 64th off in 18 inches means a 0.00086 error. This is great for wood work. It's not rocket science.

Yes, I meant 18 INCHES. Thank you all for your feedback. Now, maybe, I can stop obsessing & get on with cutting some wood!
