How to Control Saw Dust out of the Bosch 1619 Router?
I just got my Bosch 1619 router package and enjoy it a lot. However, the dust control is a real burden for me. I have to unsafely hold the 4″ hose from my dust collector in 1 hand, and route with the other hand, tracking along as the router moves through the material.
I find that with the on-off switch to my right, 80% of the waste shoots back at me, so I hold the hose between me and the router. Is there a better way? I could purchase a plastic dust chute that sits like a feedhorn placed on a table top, but it being stationary and needs to sit on something doesn’t seem to work for me when I am routing on the edge of the workbench and the dust is ejected towards me (no bench space). Are there attachments for this Bosch router that I could purchase? Any ideas or experience of your own on this predicament? thx.

I hook all my routers to a Shop Vac 5.5 HP portable with a 1 1/2" hose. 4" hose to me would be a major pain in the a$$ and IMO could pose a safety problem or ruining a good piece os stock. No need for a 105 mm Howitzer when a rifle will suffice. :>)
For hand held routing, you can remove the plastic base plate and replace it with a wood plate. Then screw a vacuum attachment to the plate, hook to your shop vac. Nothing gets all the waste from a router but this gets a lot of it.
I saw some pretty cool dust collection fittings for routers at Rockler. You may want to check those out and see if they would work for what you want to do.
Bosch has an edge forming dust extraction hood:

Their edge guide also has built-in dust collection:

Both of these as well as the regular dust extraction hood will require one or more adaptors if you're stepping out to a 4" hose, which is not advisable. Besides being an unwieldy nuisance as Sarge mentioned, a dust collector might not generate enough velocity to be as efficient as a shop vacuum. If you only have the dust collector, than you could step down nearer the intake to a smaller diameter hose.
