hello everyone-just recently learned how to quarter now I could use a little more info. I am going to have a sawyer come in to cut up some trees into lumber. I was wondering if there is any special cuts I should be looking for? I think some of the bowls I have seen turned have came from a limb crotch but I just don’t know. I sure would hate to waste any of this stuff. Any help or suggestions would sure be appreciated P>S. the trees are red oak if that matters.

for what do you plan to use the lumber? - - quarter-sawn material will show grain as lines - flat sawn shows figure - personally, I like q-sawn, but that's a matter of taste - your mileage may vary -
be generous with the thickness, it'll shrink, and then you've got to surface it - crotch figure can be nice, but oak will be very hard and unstable - if you're turning, you need hunks instead of boards, of course -
