Hi all,
I would like to know if ther eis any way to dry some wood I have turned to about 10% of final thickness. I’ve got a bowl that I need to finish and I’ve turned it and let it sit for about a 3 weeks… but It seems still wet. I have some birthdays coming up really soon, so I need to make some presents 🙂 Hindsight 20/20 I should have turned this stuff about 4 months ago.. stuffed it in a paper bag with some shavings, but I’m learning as I go… Help!
I’ve heard that you can microwave a turning, is that true?
Can I bake it at low temp for a certain amount of time?
Any ideas?

You can microwave for 1 min then let cool for a couple of hours and repeat several times but it will warp, possibly crack, all dependant on grain orientation. I take it you mean that the wall thickness is 10 percent thicker than your finished size. You are unlikely to have enough wall thickness to true up as the bowl will be distorted greatly drying it quickly if it survives at all. Most turners use micro wave after they have finished a green turned bowl and usually to a thin wall i.e. 1/8 inch.I would suggest that you read up on the different types of bowl turning by such turners as Ernie Conover,Mike O'Donnell,Richard Raffan etc. Sorry if I've made it rain on your parade.Keep on turning it is addictive !
