My friend accidentally stood a leaky bottle of household cleaner/degreaser on varnished teak veneer on his boat galley table for a couple of days. The resulting dark stain has resisted peroxide, bleach, light sanding and paint stripper with steel wool. Any suggestions, before we replace some of the veneer? Thanks!

Discoloration in teak will usually not be very deep. The teak floors on my 1978 boat have a fairly tick veneer and I was able to restore badly weathered areas by using a cabinet scraper to remove thin layers until the wood color is even. In cases where the veneer is too thin or delaminated, I cut away the entire strips and laminated back 1/16th veneers that I had sliced on the band saw. In the case of a floor panel or a tabletop, I removed the damaged strips on the table saw or router to a 1\8 depth and replaced the damaged areas with 1/8th + thick strips.
