Hi,
I started building my own router table. The top is made of 2 layers of 3/4″ MDF glued together, banded with hardwood around the edges and both sides are covered with a Formica like product. After it set for a few days, the length of it has a crown. Its approx 25″ D x 50″ wide. So with the length, it has a high crown in the center and from one end to the other its about 5/16″.
Whats the best way to flatten this? Just try to bolt 1 or 2 pieces of angle iron on the bottom?
I hate to toss it after all the work I did on it. After all this I think the next time I’ll just buy a router table.
Also – do folks recommend that I use a metal insert for a miter slot on this top? Or just a routed dado in the top.
thanks!

Luckily it sounds like the bow is up in the center- so adding the weight of the router and gravity will help pull it down- but I would definitely add some angle iron to help straighten things- as close to the router as possible without interfering with its operation.
As far as buying one in the future-why? I have seem comercial ones that are bowed more than what you describe!
In my opinion the miter gauge slots in a router table are a waste of time. It is much easier , quicker and more effective to use a backer block- holding it up to the fence and backing up behind the work. That way you you don't have to worry about getting the fence aligned perfectly parallel with the any miter gauge slot.
Hope you can get things straightened out.
