I’m helping a friend restore her beautiful armoir. The wood around where the knife hinges attach to the door was severly damanged in a move. I have repaired the door, but I cannot figure out how to reattach the door to the cabinet. The door was attached to the cabinet with straight knife hinges. But I cannot see how I can use striaght knife hinges again – its as though I would have to remove the top or bottom of the cabinet to be able to insert the pins in the cabinet. Does this make any sense?
I have attached a picture of the bottom of the cabinet. The top is esentailly the same. Hopefully this helps show the problem I’m having. Any suggestions how I can fix this would be GREATLY apprecaited!!

Attaching Door
There's a couple of ways it's done,
you can slide the pin at the top of the door up into the top header hinge hole first and then lower the door down -
the wood near the hinge has a cut out to slide the hinge in while it's attached to the door
or the crown of the cabinet is loosened and raised up to accept the pin
Hope this helps.

Reinstalling knife (pivot) hinges
Todd,
Remove both blades containing the pivot pins from the door. Insert the pin of the bottom blade into the mounted blade hole at the bottom of the cabinet. Do the same for the top blade keeping it in place with finger pressure and both blades oriented roughly 90 degrees to the opening. Slide the door onto the hinges into the mortses in the top and bottom of the door. Reinstall the screws and you're done.
