How to rabett back of a dovetailed carcass?
I’m building a carcass which will have thru dovetails showing on top and sides, How should I layout the pins? If the back of the case starts with a half pin does not it become extremely weak if I cut a rabbet in the panels for the recessed back panel? I was thinking of just making the half pin way wider than usual. Could I start with a half tail on the back and front edges instead?
Thanks.

You are correct about the potential issue about cutting the rabbet- especially if you cut the rabbet before glue up. Starting with a half tail in the back is one way to deal with it. Another is to either cut the rabbet after glue up, if that's practical- i.e. with a router resting on the back edge. Or, cut the rabbet before glue up as usual, but stay shy of that pin by 1/2" or so, glue up the cabinet, then chisel the remainder. Good luck!
You might have a look at the way Mike Pekovich does it in his video here: https://www.finewoodworking.com/2019/12/17/ep-2-laying-out-and-rabbetting-the-case
Thank you for the tips!
I'd use a half tail. I use half tails on the bottom edges of drawers to help hide the drawer bottom groove.
I use a rabbet bit at the router table.
