HELP! I made a mistake and applied High Gloss Tung Oil to interior doors.
It dried too shiny / glossy. I should have used satin finish.
Any suggestions as to how to reduce the shine to a more subtle look?
(if you make a product recommendation please let me know what brand you prefer)
Thanks!

I'm more of a part time very amateur woodworker, but I'd try either a Scotchbrite pad or very fine 000 or 0000 steel wool and rub it lightly. Others here might have better ideas.
km,
1. Put another coat on of the sheen you prefer, or
2. Knock back the sheen with a fine abrasive, e.g., 0000 wire wool or a grey Scotchbrite type pad.

I agree, put a coat of the sheen you need over the gloss. I was talking with David Marks at woodcraft a few months ago and the way he does his finishing (lots of coats), is to use gloss for all but the last couple of coats. The stuff that is in the satin and semi-gloss finishes will make the overall finish look cloudy if you apply very many layers of finish. Use gloss for the undercoats and then the semi-gloss/satin and you will have a much richer deeper looking finish when it is all done.Michael BurtonThunderbird HardwoodsKiln Dried Mesquite LumberLlano, TX
