I attached silicon-carbide paper to a piece of float glass for purposes of flattening the backs of chisels. Worked great. One problem: How do I get the glue off the float glass? It was tough enough peeling the paper off the glass. But it left substantial glue residue on the glass, which, of course, I need to get off in order to get my flat float glass back again.
Thanks for any suggestions on how to remove the glue from the glass.

Most solvents will remove the glue. I used Goof Off to get it off of my granite tilebut acetone, lacquer thinner and mineral spirits will all work. Since the paper doesn't need to have a death grip on the surface, I put a couple of coats of paste wax on and buffed it so the paper will come off easier next time.
Thanks. I will try your suggestions, esp the paste wax once I get the glass clean! I was pretty aggravated trying to pry the paper from the glass! I was thinking "I thought the PSA was supposed to make this easier -- not more difficult!"
Regards.
If the PSA backed paper is from Rockler, get it wet and the paper will peel away from the glue.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
Thanks again, highfigh. I had some denatured alcohol. This together with a scraper, and I was able to remove the glue.
Appreciate your help.

I use sandpaper on granite, and get good enough adhesion just using a mist of water. Then it just lifts off. But I'm not lapping chisels, I'm flattening my water stones.
I soak a couple paper towels (enough to cover the glass) with water and place it over the sandpaper. Place it all in a ziplock plastic bag (so paper towel won't dry out) and let it soak overnight. Next day it peals right off, glue and all.
I have used a razor blade scraper and goof off or naphtha if I'm in a hurry and don't want to wait for the solvent alone. I have also heard that if you get a build up on of the PSA glue on a sanding disk, you can put the disk in a freezer for a while and it will come quickly. Haven't tried that. I use loop and hook paper.
Old thread.
But for PSA adhesive on my 12 inch disc sander, laquer thinner is the only thing that gets the glue off. Mineral spirits does nothing. Make sure to use alcohol to wipe down the steel disc after the laquer thinner, or the next disc might not stick.
For putting sandpaper on glass for sharpening, use a different adhesive. I like artist's spray mount adhesive. It holds the paper down, but it peels right off with no scraping, when you want it to.
Glue that's been on since 2006 is pretty tough. I'd just start over with a fresh piece of glass.
