I recently acquired a Morris Reclining Rocker No 58 and the runners are worn fairly flat. I do not want to replace the entire runner because they have a beautifully carved claw foot on the front of each. I have searched the net and could not find out if it is ok to just build up the flat part. All I have found is details about reapairing a broken runner…not just a worn one. Everything I find says to just replace it, but again, I don’t want to do that.
Can I just cut a piece of oak that would essentially be the missing puzzle piece of the arc and glue and nail it on?
Many thanks in advance…

nail?!
Put the nail down, and step away from it. ;-)
If the runners are simply worn, rather than broken, you might be able to glue one or more thin strips (think 1/8" thick) to bring the profile back to the original dimension. Think of it like a bent lamination project, where each strip is glued, clamped (lots of clamps), and allowed to dry befor adding the next. Once glued in place, the strips can then be shaped to fit the curve.
