How do I shrink the amount of KB required for posting photos? There was a posting here a couple of weeks ago about that I think.
thanks,
Chuck

I use my camera software, click on "image" and then "resize". I typically bring the width down to 350 - 600. I think 700 will about fill my monitor. There may well be other ways.

I get the pic open and in preview or whatever they call the place where you can play with the image. Then I crop it. alot of the time you don't need the stuff around the subject. Have fun!
Several factors that affect file size:
If you don't need the pic for anything but web posting, take it at 100dpi, not 600, or 1200 or any of those other huge numbers.
As mentioned above, crop out all the unnecessary stuff around the edges, reducing the overall size. I don't see any reason for most pics to be more than 1/4 the size of the monitor screen, and most can be quite a bit less. Up to about 480 x 480 or so. Save in .jpg. Compress by 20-30%
Here's a 55kb of my grandson and his favorite car (4th of July). That's as big as I make 'em for the internet.

If I have a jpg and want to super shrink it, I use a free jpg optimizer from http://www.xat.com Generally I can shrink a 640x480 jpg down to about 15K without losing too much clarity.

Thanks for that link, Ken. I like the idea of making my own screensaver!forestgirl Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>) you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Thanks for the help. I realize the older I get, the slower I learn. Learning new computer programs is harder than learning to cut dovetails.

I had my first experience with digital photos and FTPing files in 1996. Practically took therapy to get me over it! It was a day-long nightmare of failure. Once I learned, though, it all seemed rather easy.
