Happy New Year to all!!
Great Gifts. I received a LN Beading Tool, SawStop TS, Lock mortise chisel and other misc. What a great wife, and she's is beautiful too!I responded to you because a lathe will be my next purchase, and that is the one I have identified as the one. Have you gotten and used it yet? I wold be interested as to your thoughts over the next month or two. What to you plan to turn with it?

I thought I was doing well with the LN scraper plane, then I read this thread. Sigh.
Doug
Seeing my 2 1/2 year old light up when she came downstairs and saw what Santa left her. Oh and I got a Forrest 8" dado stack and a set of LV chisels. Very happy.
I got the lathe and LOVE it! Smooth as silk, tons of power and VERY well made. I really debated the OneWay and Powermatic thing but the OneWay is almost twice as much and I cannot see that much difference. I got the 18" extension that will allow about 34"swing when you move the headstock to the end of the lathe. Be sure to get the 18" extension assembly rather than the 18" extension as the assembly comes with the extension post for the tool rest and the other does not (I made the mistake and Rockler had the extra post sent to me no charge - Yeah Rockler!).
I think OneWay is getting killed by the dollar thing. I also had a long talk with a production turner and he thinks the powermatic is the way to go.
Also the spur drive that came with it was junk. That was the only part not made like a battleship. Get a Sorby or PSI ($18.95) drive and you will be set.
The lathe is on sale for 2795 until the end of the year so you better hurry!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Scott
"no tools, as I have enough of them."Really? This is possible?Regarding the website, have you tried using Joomla? I've heard some great things about it, and it's free and WYSIWYG. Myself I use FreeWay, but that's a mac only program, and my website is two years old and in need of a serious overhaul.
When I was a Carpenter, I was a serious tool junkie and continued to be to a lesser degree after I started making furniture, but now, other than molding planes, I'm not much interested in tools. I did recently get an HVLP gun from Homestead Finishing, that changed my life, so I guess there is still room for the occasional tool.
I had not heard of Joomla, I might wish I had since the Dreamweaver CS3 was $400.00. I wanted it, because I'd like to add a few video clips to my site, and I wanted to spruce up the navigation. I really can't complain about the FrontPage I was using, it made a respectable site with a very short learning curve.

LN dovetail saw and LN #4 bench plane (lots of fondling)
Clamps 'cause you can never have too many
"Box by Box" by Jim Stack - my favorite box idea book (what a wife!)
An entire day to watch my little guys be completely excited by the cool stuff Santa brought ("He got me everything on my list. He must have known I was a good boy...). Sweet!
Wixey Digital Fence and Angle Meter
Bosch PS40-2 10.8V Impact Driver
Bosch PS10-2 Litheon 10.8-Volt Lithium-Ion I-Driver Kit
Black & Decker AAW100 8-Inch Auto Wrench (not sure about this one, anyone like it?)
My wife loves me, and takes note of my wish list!
Probably driving to Grizzly for an 8" jointer soon....
LN Medium Shoulder Plane from my daughter.
Ten inch Bosch slider.
In addition to all the REALLY good stuff, I got a new Lee Valley/Veritas Bevel Up Smoother and 3 blades.
It makes paper thin shavings in curly maple, with no tearout, just like I've read that planes are supposed to do. If this is the way that good planes are supposed to work, I want more! (oh..., I mean "Thank You" :))
Joy
A combo sander.
I just got the Grizzly 8 inch jointer and you won't be sorry. It is a well built machine.
Thanks for the info on the Grizzly 8" jointer. How hard is it to assemble? The big question is; how much do you think the two boxes that it comes in weigh each? My wife and I would have to get it out of the pickup and into the basement shop. Thanks,John
It is not hard to assemble at all. The instructions are very clear. I had no problem with the assembly. As for the weight of the machine that is quite another story. As crated up it weighs well over 500 pounds. The stand and motor come in one crate and the jointer in another. I took the crate apart before moving it into my shop and took the fence and a few other things off. Even after all of that the jointer body is heavy. I used a friend, leverage and a hand cart to move it. You will need help in addition to your wife to get the machine into your basement. You will be happy once you get it up and running.
Ha! I got you all beat. Yeah, I got the usual assortment of idea books (good ones too), but the kicker was an offer to trade my 12'x20' basement space for her 20'x40' shop space in a ground-level outbuilding. Yeah, the building (a former chicken coop that no longer smells like one) needs a little work (new wiring, a couple windows for extra light, some light fixtures, minor roof repairs, some Tyvek, insulation, and wallboard, but the end result will be a fantastic shop space.
Mike
I got a nice full set of Lee Valley drill bits to replace my toothless-looking set, and I got a new Bosch barrel grip jig saw to replace my 35 year old black and decker that smokes more than it cuts.
The best gift of all, though, is that I leave Thursday morning at 6:00 AM to go with my son's hockey team to the National Invitational Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. They are the Prairie Ridge Wolves, and they are the defending champs. It's my first trip with just my son and I. He's almost 18.
Go Wolves!!!
Jeff
A four tool Ryobi 18v Li-Ion bag of tools. Drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and light.
During a trip to the Agent Orange store in early October while helping #2 daughter and SIL with a project, we passed the Ryobi display and I mentioned that I might get the 18v Li-Ion set...............someday. I've had the 14.4v NiCad tools for quite a while and - although they still worked fine - would need to replace them sooner or later.
A couple of weeks later, #1 daughter asked what I might like for Xmas and I gave the usual response that it really didn't matter too much - although another flannel shirt would probably just hang in the closet and collect dust.
Well, SWMBO and the kids conspired and I got a pile of new tools. They also wondered about the color schemes of all the new tools. Some of these job sites are going to look like a psychedelic circus!! - lol
An even better gift may be in the works. For the past few years, I've made furniture for the kids in an overprotective attempt to protect them from the likes of Ikea, et al. They have more projects in mind and seemed to like my idea of them coming over and actually helping build some of the stuff. If it actually happens, it might be the best gift of all. - lol
a gift certificate to Eagle America
I think I knew that !! ;-) I did quite a few this year, saves me doing returns ;-)

Santa left my Worksharp 3000 at the North Pole so I'll just have to get one myself. ;-D
My fiance got me quite a few different things. I'm new to woodworking, so I got a couple of push-sticks, etc., (she doesn't want me losing any fingers) and she also got me a Bosch plunge router :-DI also received a couple of Forrest blades and an Incra miter gauge from other family members. I was out yesterday trying it all out and making mountains of sawdust and quickly realized that I'm going to need a dust collector :-D
kid,
If you're real good, maybe the Easter bunny will bring you one. Tell him/her that the Delta 50-760 1½ HP is a nice one if you don't need a cyclone instead. Wife got me one for $350 w/ DC starter kit.
The thang sucks big time!

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
How well did Santa treat you?
It was GREAT.. All the children (except the boy in Colorado), Grandchildren were there, and my sister-in-law.. Four German Shepards and a Jack Russell Terrier. Dogs were good, Grandchildren were very good, we adults need a bit of work though...
I always tell EVERYONE NO presents for me! Spend your money on the children! As kids do they never listen!
I received a $1000.00 gift card for/from? my local hardwood supplier and a list of things needed...
Life is BETTER than good...
I got my two China girls Pinocchio Tape Measure from Lee Valley (among many others things)

They ran around the house for a hour or two measuring everything....
I'm sure they had no idea what they were doing but they had fun doing it!

One thing I was thinking about asking for holidays next year is for people to buy me a piece of wood. A wood they liked, in 4/4, about 4-6" wide and maybe a foot long. Then, I will take that wood, and make something with it, for that person. The enjoyment of being in the shop would be plenty enough, and in the end, the person that gave it gets to receive something as well.
55,000 BTU Reddy Heater. I no longer have to wait hours for my shop/garage to warm up with my old kerosene heater. In 20 minutes it is a pleasant 60 degrees. I just have to remember to unplug this turbo blowing heater before the sawdust starts flying. - I went out and bought a new fire extinguisher just in case (ha).
I got a nice warm shop jacket. No use having shiny new tools if your shop's too cold to use them in. No complaints here. Life is good.Chris @ flairwoodworks
Veritas Scraper Set
LV "Japanese" chisel set
FWW Furniture Design book
Steel City 18" Bandsaw (ok - that was a B-day and x-mas present already in the garage).
A task to reproduce a part from the back of a 100-year-old chair that once belonged to my great grandparents. (My favorite present).
Scotty
I got a lump of coal
Aye, you must have been a bad little woodworker. Your tale of wo must be a good'un. Do tell.
Regards,Bob @ Kidderville Acres
A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
A remote controlled helicopter and my three, 25ish year old kids and their spouses to help me crash it. The best.
Have a great new year all,
Paul
Hi all... new to the group and woodworking. I got a Grizzly 17" bandsaw for Christmas!
I've got a great husband!
When the guys showed up for the weekly football game, they gave me a signed copy of the new book, Samuel McIntire, Carving an American Style.Ron
Well this has been fun and it looks like LN had a busy season. I wish a great new year to all and to those of you who got sharp and pointy things! Count to ten at the end of a busy day in the shop.Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Bruce, you beat me to it. LN seems to take top prize for being Santa's Helpers. And I'll add to the list with the progressive pitch dovetail saw my wife got me. And just last month I got their 4 1/2 (birthday at thanksgiving) while in ME visiting family.
We were in their showroom in ME and my wife apparently spotted the saws, liked the look and chose one without any prompting. Now that's a wife. I guess I need to get busy working on my handcut dovetails.
BruceS,
It should be noted, for those of us with Woodcraft gift cards, LN has reduced the price of the 'rabbit block plane' from $150 to $119. Also, on the website, you can print off a coupon for a $20 gift certificate which they may just honor when you purchase the block plane...timing is of the essence.
My wife insisted (really) that I break ground on my new shop in the spring.
Paul
