Over the years I have acquired or inherited quite a few pieces of what I would term “everyday furniture”. Nice, factory made stuff, probably 60 – 80 years old. A while back I spotted a can of Howard Furniture Restore in the paint dept of my local hardware store. Being an effete woodworking snob, I made a disparaging remark about the product to one of my salesman friends. He told me that it was good stuff, so naturally I bought a can just to prove him wrong.

After cleaning off an old sideboard with napha, I applied the Furniture Restore with 0000 steel wool, let it sit for a few minuets, and buffed it off with soft rags. I was astonished at the results. Since then I have cleaned up several more pieces.

I am wondering if any of you may have also tried this product. I am also curious as to what, besides oil and wax, makes this stuff work so well.

Ya know..
It must depend upon the finish. I just tried it on a 50 year old table top with and unknown (by me) finish. It did NOTHING. I let it sit, nothing, rubbed with #0000 steelwool; nothing except steel wool scratches!
I have heard good stories about it but have yet to find a finish it works with...... But I still have a can so I'm tryin'!

I have used it a lot with good results and recommend it often. It can work wonders on white rings.
For the other poster for whom it didn't work, could be a catalyzed lacquer finish.
