In this article the author, Mario Rodriguez, says he finished the piece with “three coats of shellac and paste wax” . My question: what color shellac did he use to obtain the reddish color to the piece?

He stated the chest is made of walnut. I suspect the reddish color is more due to the photography than the actual color. With darker woods such a walnut as well as cherry, I would suggest orange shellac flakes to compliment the natural color of the wood. Here is a good supplier:
