About to spend some money on a spraying system and would like to get into HVLP. Need suggestion on a system that could spray light bodied solvent based sealer for house spraying application, and would eventually be used for lacquer and other furniture finishes. Does a system exist???? I’m thinking $500-$700. I’ve been pointed toward airless for the House application, and conversion for the furniture application but don’t want a collection of incompatible systems. Would love to hear someone’s experiences good or bad…..

For painting houses, airless is the way to go. You say you want to spray a "light bodied solvent based sealer for house spraying application" but I'm not sure what that means - trimwork? sealing log cabins? sealing cedar shakes? decks? If you're talking about spraying the entire exterior of a house, an airless system is your best choice. Anything else, like HVLP, will take 10 times longer. Airless is not a good choice for furniture/cabinetry finishing though.
There is a very good gravity feed HVLP conversion spray gun made by Star that costs under $100. If you go to this link, you can read a lengthy discussion about the spray gun - http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/forums/finishing.pl?read=141662 - If you do visit Jeff Jewitt's web site, look on his Q&A board - someone asked about the Star, and Jeff said he bought one himself and it's a good spray gun. This spray gun is a good choice for furniture finishing.
If you have a compressor, you can get the airless for the big jobs and the HVLP spray gun both for your budget amount.

I RECIENTLY BOUGHT A HVLP 4 TURBINE SPRAYER. I LIKE THE PORTABILITY OF IT. I ALSO LIKE THE FINISH I RECIEVED. I ALSO SPRAY LATEX WITH IT. I FOUND IT TO BE OVERKILL FOR THE LAQUOR & TO SLOW FOR LATEX. IF I COULD BACK UP, I WOULD BUY A CONVERSION UNIT & A AIRLESS UNIT. I TRIED A VERY INEXPENSIVE CONVERSION SPRAYER WITH A GRAVITY CUP AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED, JUST DONT BUY ONE WITH PLASTIC PARTS. UNDER 100$ SHOULD DO YOU NICSLY. HAPPY SPRAYING
